Pints will be raised once again at 444 West Broad Street in Falls Church.
Solace Brewing Co. will be expanding its reach into Fairfax County for the first time this spring (not just in cans), in the former Mad Fox Brewing Company space, which shuttered its doors in July 2019.
The Loudoun County-based craft brewery is known best for its experimental IPAs and regionally distributed brews that can be found in cans and kegs across Northern Virginia. Now, it’ll have its chance to create limited-edition, exclusive brews in a family-friendly location in Falls Church.
“Getting into Fairfax County and being closer to the city is exciting for us,” says Jon Humerick, co-founder of Solace. “There are several good breweries there, and we’re excited to join them and bring a new local community spot.”
The company is working with the team behind H2 Collective (owned and operated by ever-popular local developers Eric and Ian Hilton) to create a brewery and restaurant, featuring an independent pizza concept with Steve Ryan, co-founder of Blackfinn Ameripub.
The Hilton brothers approached Solace back in October 2019, after the companies had teamed up in the past on a specialty brew for Players Club, a Hilton-owned arcade bar in Logan Circle. Now, the developers behind Mosaic District newcomer Parc de Ville and DC’s Chez Billy Sud have taken on the restaurant side of the new Solace Brewing Co. space, and Humerick and his team are responsible for getting a brewery up and running before May.
The space will have brewing equipment but is not planning to distribute in the same way as the Loudoun County headquarters. The new “hangout spot,” as Humerick refers to it, will feature more specialized beers for local fans, as well as a reinvented space to enjoy with family and friends.
“This gives us the chance to focus on small-batch beers, more experimental IPAs, sour beers and new styles that we we’re not necessarily able to play with at our main brewing facility [in Loudoun County],” says Humerick.
The new location still has work to do in solidifying the restaurant concept, getting brewery equipment up and running and more, but until then, Humerick is looking forward to a hopeful April or May opening.
“Our production scale and distribution really set us apart here in Loudoun County and Northern Virginia,” says Humerick. “I think that, in combination with our branding here [in NoVA] for the past three years are really what set us apart.”
